Sebastien Squillaci wants Arsenal to emulate Manchester United’s winning mentality
Arsenal defender Sebastien Squillaci has urged his teammates to turn to archrivals Manchester United for inspiration.
The Frenchman wants his side to emulate the never-say-die attitude of United as they look to overtake the Red Devils in the race for the Premier League crown.
Arsenal have had a terrible month. The Gunners were in with a shot of winning a possible quadruple, but a string of terrible results sent them crashing back to Earth. Arsene Wenger’s men were knocked out of three cup competitions in the space of two weeks,
leaving them to fight for just the Premier League crown.
Even that title currently seems out of reach, with leader Manchester United having opened up a five-point gap at the top of the League standings. In stark contrast to Arsenal’s current predicament, the Red Devils are still in contention for a treble. Aside
from their strong position in the Premier League, United are still competing in both the FA Cup and the Champions League.
What’s amazing about Manchester United’s position is that the Red Devils are far from their best. Sir Alex’s current crop of players is widely considered to be one of the weakest Manchester United squads in recent memory. However, the Red Devils keep on
grinding out results.
Arsenal defender Sebastien Squillaci believes that it is United’s winning mentality that allows them to retain their place at the top of the table.
Squillaci has urged his teammates to take a page from United’s book and believe in their own ability to go all the way to the Premier League title in the ongoing 2010-11 season.
The Frenchman said, “Look at Manchester United for example, they grind out the wins and that is what counts at the end of the season. So for us, that is the main aim. Bouncing back from the disappointments (of the recent cup exits) and getting our chins
up, showing that Arsenal is a big club, that can win the title.”
If Arsenal want to overtake Manchester United in the League, they cannot afford any more slip ups. The Gunners next play Blackburn http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Rovers-c40385 on 2 April, 2011.
