Arsenal’s Theo Walcott has revealed that manager Arsene Wenger motivated the team to perform at a much higher level, following them going level with Wigan Athletic in the first half of their Premier League clash.
Going into the game, both the teams were well aware of the fact that they needed to end up picking up all three points from the match. Wigan needed the three points to stand a slight chance of avoiding relegation, while Arsenal needed to pick up the three
points to ensure that they were still in the chase for a top four finish.
The match kicked off with http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Lukas-Podolski-c22896 corner. However, Wigan went on to equalise before the half was over, via free kick.
Walcott has now revealed that Wenger went on to blast the team during the half time break, in order to motivate them to perform to the best of their abilities. He admitted that the team needed those harsh comments from the manager, since it spurred them
on, and made them perform even better.
In fact, the team went on to look much better in the second half, as they went on to win the game by four goals to one at the end of the day.
“We got a rocket at half-time,” Walcott told reporters. “We'll keep that in the dressing room but it's great that the manager has that passion and it got a bit more out of the players. The manager gave us a kick up the backside.”
“We are aware we could finish third but we just want to win,” he added.
Walcott then insisted that the team was now looking to maintain its form, and the pace of things, since there was no chance to slip up any longer.
“We want to keep our form going. We haven't lost now in a long time; I have lost count. We just have great experience in knowing what to do when the time is right,” added the midfielder.
He also admitted that the game against Newcastle will not be a walk in the park, however, he feels that his side are ready for the game.
