Arsenal’s Belgian defender, Thomas Vermaelen is on track to make his long awaited return to the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Arsenal-Maseru-c38430 squad. The player, who has been out injured for nearly eight months now, was believed to sit out the season due to his Achilles, which refused to get
back in shape for some odd reason. However, he has managed to finally get his act together and is now set to feature in a reserve team match for the Gunners.
Vermaelen picked up a mystery injury, which seemed to be like a thorn in his side that just wouldn’t go away. The defender was initially ruled out for a week or two, however, his injury was later discovered to be more serious than initially thought to be
and hence the defender went under the knife in January.
The surgery didn’t seem to do much good, as it couldn’t help catalyze the defenders return to footballing action, as he was ruled out for the season. Nonetheless, in a dramatic turn of events, the defender went on to start training with the team recently
and is now set to be as fit.
With Vermaelen set to face the Manchester United reserves later on in the day, it is hard not to feel that, should the player go through the game without missing a beat, he might just be called into action to take on the Red Devils' first team, this coming
Sunday.
Vermaelen has been greatly missed by the Gunners this season, especially since the turn of the year. In the defenders absence, the Arsenal squad went on to drop out of three tournaments in quick succession and are now virtually out of the title race for
the English Premiership as well.
However, with the defender now looking to reclaim his spot in the team, maybe things can still take a turn for the North London side. At the moment, in order for Arsenal to keep any sort of footing in the race to the English crown at the end of the season,
they are going to have to beat Manchester United this Sunday. The team just can’t afford to see out that game in any other way.
As a result, should Vermaelen go through the reserve game flawlessly, then he might put Wenger in a very comfortable position to pick the back-line for Sunday. The manager is more than likely to go on and pair http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Johan-Djourou-c18779 with the Belgian in the heart
of the defence and put http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Bacary-Sagna-c7148 and Gael Clichy in the full-back positions. As a result, the Gunners squad now is starting to look all the more impressive on paper, then it has for most of the season.
