Arsenal’s attacker, Robin van Persie, believes that the Gunners can now solely focus on the Barclays Premier League
Arsenal striker, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Robin-van-Persie-c31380, feels that the Gunners can now fully concentrate on the Barclays Premier League after being knocked out of the three cup competitions within a span of month.
Robin van Persie, who is also Arsenal’s vice-captain, said, “It's a real blow that we threw away three trophies within the space of only three weeks. However, we still have another big objective and that's winning the Premier League title. We're five points
behind Manchester United, but have a game in hand, so we can narrow the gap to two points”.
“It's actually an advantage that we're no longer active in other competitions, so we won't get distracted. We still have everything in our own hands and will do our utmost to win the league title, even though we have been dealt a few big blows in recent
weeks”, said the Dutch striker.
Almost a month ago, Arsenal was the only team in http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/England-c749 which was plying their trade in four different competitions, UEFA Champions League, Barclays Premier League, FA Cup and Carling Cup.
The Gunners, who have not won a single piece of silverware in the past six years, were given the golden opportunity to end their trophy drought after reaching the final of the Carling Cup against the minnows, Birmingham City.
However, the Gunners failed to impress on such huge occasion and were defeated by Birmingham City after a mix-up between defender and keeper in the injury time of the match, which gifted http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Alex-c4752 McLeish’s men the Carling Cup trophy.
Despite triumphing against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Barcelona-c38604 in the first leg of the UEFA Champions League knock-out round at Emirates, the Gunners were knock-out by the Catalans after Arsene Wenger’s men were defeated, 3-1, at Nou Camp.
Furthermore, Arsenal recently crashed out of the FA Cup, when Manchester United claimed a 2-0 victory over the Gunners at Old Trafford in the quarter-final stage of the competition.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Arsenal-c38429’s hopes of winning any piece of silverware are now being tied with the Barclays Premier League. The Gunners are five points behind league leaders, Manchester United, and also have a game in hand.
However, Arsenal’s title hopes were dented when they only managed to get a point against West Bromwich Albion at Hawthorns last weekend.
Nonetheless, Arsene Wenger’s men still have to play Sir Alex Ferguson’s team at Emirates, which is being considered as a season deciding fixture.
