Arsenal’s boss, Arsene Wenger, labels his team’s performance against Blackburn Rovers as ‘flat’
Arsenal’s manager, Arsene Wenger, expressed disappointment over the ‘flat’ performance produced by his team in a goalless draw against Blackburn Rovers at Emirates Stadium on Saturday but claimed that the Gunners can still overtake Manchester United for
the Barclays Premier League title in the ongoing 2010-11 season.
Wenger said, “It was a frustrating performance because we had no pace in our game. Overall it was a flat performance with a lack of energy level, a lack of sharpness. It is difficult to identify one special thing. I felt we started okay and after our game
became flat”.
Arsenal entered the match against Blackburn Rovers on the back of two consecutive draws in the Barclays Premier League before the two-week international break. The Gunners welcomed back http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Arsenal-c38429 a lively start against Steve Kean’s team
at Emirates Stadium.
The North London side played their customary fluent short passing football and dominated the play by keeping possession but failed to create any problems for http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Paul-Robinson-c29389. Arsene Wenger’s team was clearly missing the creativity in the final
third and they looked completely out of depth.
Blackburn Rovers, who managed get positive results in only three out of their last eight matches, managed to keep Arsenal at bay despite losing a man halfway through the second half.
Rovers resolute defending paid off as they managed to get a point which has put them out of the relegation zone and in the 14th position in the League standings.
It was Arsenal’s third consecutive draw in the Barclays Premier League and now they are seven points behind League leaders, Manchester United, though the Gunners have a game in hand.
Now, Arsene Wenger wants his team to forget about the past results and concentrate on the upcoming matches in order to end the six-year trophy drought at Arsenal.
The Frenchman is confident that his team has the strength and character to overhaul Manchester United.
The Gunners’ boss said, “We have to focus on our performance, not on Manchester United. Before we speak about the title I believe we have to come back to a good level of performance. I fear nothing; I am concerned about our performance against Blackburn
Rovers”.
Arsenal will continue their Premier League campaign with a trip to Blackpool on Sunday and another bad result for the Gunners will potentially end their title hopes.
