Arsenal’s goalkeeper, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Wojciech-Szczesny-c36998, wants to become the next Peter Schmeichel
Arsenal’s young goalkeeper, Wojciech Szczesny, has expressed his desire to emulate the career of the legendary Manchester United goalkeeper, Peter Schmeichel, who is considered as one of the best goalkeepers in the history of football.
The 20-year-old admitted that his father, who had also represented http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Poland-c2983 as a goalkeeper, has a huge impact on his life, but the young Pole wants to be compared with Schmeichel.
The Polish keeper said, “I've always used my dad as my role model. I've always looked to him for advice. But if you ask me who my favourite keeper of all time is, it's Peter Schmeichel. As a kid I used to watch and admire him. I hope I can achieve as much
in my career as he did”.
Szczesny has been a revelation at the Emirates this season – cementing his place in http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Lukasz-Fabianski-c22910.
The young Pole keeper, who is enjoying his prime form, was exceptional in Arsenal’s latest victories.
The young goalie gave an extraordinary performance in Arsenal’s historic win over http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Pedro-c29582 and Iniesta.
Szczesny was also at his best in Arsenal’s Premier League’s crucial victory over Stoke City that has taken the Gunners only one point behind league leaders, Manchester United.
Arsene Wenger usually plays his second choice keeper in the League cup matches, but it is widely expected that Szczesny will be given the gloves in the Carling Cup final against Birmingham City.
Arsenal will look to end their 6-years trophy drought by winning the Carling Cup on Sunday and Szczesny feels that Arsenal’s morale will be boosted if they manage to win the league cup.
The 20-year-old said, “Winning on Sunday would give us a massive boost. If we do win the trophy we will have even more desire to push on from there and win all the trophies remaining. It's hard to talk about being favourites [for the Final]. It's the only
chance [Birmingham] will get to win a trophy this season so they will be up for it. But we believe we can beat them and win the trophy. We haven't been to Wembley for some time so it will be a great experience. We're hoping to win the first trophy of the season”.
Szczesny, who is tipped as Arsenal number one goalkeeper by Arsene Wenger, has also expressed his desire to stay at the North London club for 10 more years. The 20-year-old has already managed to secure 7 clean-sheets in 15 appearances in Arsenal’s jersey.
