Arsenal’s goalkeeper woes: Arsene Wenger ponders another keeper bid
Arsenal's goalkeeper problems are no secret and after watching one of his two keepers fail miserably, time and time again, Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger seems to have finally decided that time has come to acquire the services of a new keeper.
The keeper that the manager has in mind is Villarreal’s highly rated shot stopper Diego Lopez. Lopez is another Spaniard and Wenger is hoping that Villarreal will be open to listen to options involving a trade off between the two Spanish keepers.
Lopez, is a former Real Madrid youth player and is also the current third choice keeper for the Spanish international side. He has also been one of the most consistent keepers in the Spanish La Liga over the course of the last two seasons or so and as a
result he has been linked with numerous moves, away from the Spanish side to play for a much bigger club.
Almunia has also admitted that if he does manage to miss out on his starting position at Arsenal then he too would be looking for a move away from the Emirates. This is because he is more than aware of the fact, that once he is dropped there is no going
back for the keeper, who seems to be just getting worse as time progresses. He would also more than likely be looking for a move back to Spain, where he was brought up as opposed to a move elsewhere.
Lopez had been previously targeted by Wenger on numerous points, however last time around the manager missed out on the opportunity to signing the player, since he was preoccupied elsewhere. The manager seemed to focus all his efforts on trying to sign Fulham's
highly rated Australian keeper, Mark Schwarzer, but failed to lure him to the Emirates as well.
Quite recently, Luckasz Fabianski has shown that he is clearly the better option at hand for Arsenal and the manager has clearly taken note of this, which is why he chose to start with him against Chelsea. With that being said, Arsenal is still in desperate
need of some positive reinforcements in the form of a world class goalkeeper. Arsene Wenger is currently treading on thin ice with the clubs fans who have grown to love him over the years. However, Arsenal fans have started to lose their cool with the manager,
who seems to have a plan for the future, but no one is really aware when that future is going to come. Wenger needs to take a stand and sign some experienced players, starting with a quality keeper. If he manages to do just that, then Arsenal might finally
be on their way to ending their trophy-less run.
