Arsenal’s manager, Arsene Wenger, unhappy with Gunners’ lackluster performance this season
Arsenal’s boss, Arsene Wenger, has expressed his disappointment over his team’s poor defensive display in a 2-1 defeat against Aston Villa in the last home game of the ongoing 2010-11 season. The Gunners gave an under-par performance and were completely
dominated by Aston Villa, which was battling to avoid relegation.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Darren-Bent-c10358 scored a brace within the first 15 minutes of the match thanks to Arsenal’s sloppy defending.
The Villa striker was first played on-side by Sebastien Squillaci and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Bacary-Sagna-c7148 played Bent on-side for the second goal. Within no time Arsenal were two goals down and could not manage to comeback.
However, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Robin-van-Persie-c31380 scored a consolation goal in the 89th minute but it proved to be of no use as Gunners suffered their fourth home defeat of the season.
It was also Arsenal’s third defeat in their last four league matches and the Gunners have now put their third place in jeopardy as FA Cup winners Manchester City would need to win both their last matches to automatically qualify for the UEFA Champions League,
whereas, Arsenal would have to play the qualifying round to get into Champions League.
Arsene Wenger told the reporters, “We gave very cheap goals away. We dropped three points which could cost us automatic qualification for the Champions League”.
Moreover, the final whistle of this season at Emirates was greeted with boos by Arsenal fans and most of the supporters even left the stadium before the squad’s lap of appreciation.
Arsene Wenger admitted that the Gunners fans have all rights to voice their discontentment about their team’s lackluster performance this season.
Arsenal manager added, “It was not a tour of glory, but I think, no matter what happens, you have to respect your fans for turning up for the whole season. We are in a job where you have to please people and if they are not happy, we have to accept that.
We will try to strengthen our team, of course, but the best way to keep our fans happy is to win the games”.
