Arsenal’s standout performers for the 2010-2011 Premier League Season –Part 1
The 2010 – 2011 season, was the season that saw http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Arsenal-c38429 truly express all their highs and lows. At one point in the season, the team was in contention to win it all, as they were in contention to land the Premier League trophy, the FA Cup, the Carling Cup
and even the Champions League.
However, following past tradition of recent years, the team went on to implode on all four fronts, by the time the season came to a close.
The team’s downfall started with a very dramatic last minute defeat to Birmingham City, which was followed by http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Barcelona-c38604 overcoming a one goal deficit in the team’s second-leg encounter in the Champions League. Soon after, Manchester United went on to knock
the Gunners out of the FA Cup and eventually beat them to the punch and claimed their nineteenth Premier League trophy.
Despite the season being as poor as it was for the team, there were a couple of players who stood out for the North London club, amidst all this chaos.
Bacary Sagna
Arsenal’s French full-back, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Bacary-Sagna-c7148, has quite easily been one of the best players on display, for the last couple of seasons at the Emirates. The defender seems to always give it his all when he takes to the pitch and it is close to impossible for
one to find any flaws with his game.
Sagna helps keep a solid defensive line at the back and on the other hand, he goes on to help out with the attack just as capably. In fact, the player managed to score two goals this past season, while picking up three assists along the way.
Nonetheless, despite this past season being a brilliant one for the defender on a personal level, there were a few glimpses of madness shown by the defender along the way.
The player managed to pick up his first two red cards as Gunner, this past term and for the first time ever (or something along those lines), the player was caught mouthing it off with another player.
In Arsenal’s encounter with Manchester City at the Emirates, in the final minutes of the game, Sagna went on to slide into http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Pablo-Zabaleta-c29022. Soon after, the duo were caught squaring off and eventually Sagna went on to head-butt the Argentine defender.
Nonetheless, what can be said in the defender’s http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Defence-c38904, is that the pressure that was riding on his shoulders was a little too much for anyone to handle and hence he went on to lash out at Zabaleta.
Apart from that, the defender has been flawless for the Gunners. His tackling has been top class, his man marking has been one of the best in the business and the way he commands the right flank, is quite simply, phenomenal.
Sagna, has spent nearly four seasons with the Gunners, without receiving any recognition for his work (from fans apart from the Gunners faithful), however, that was not the case this time around. In honour of the player’s brilliance this past season, he
went on to be named in the PFA team of the season, which seems like the just reward for his performances.
