Arsene Wenger: Arsenal lacked experience last season – EPL news
Arsenal manager, Arsene Wenger, has claimed that his young squad lacked experience which he sees as the pivotal reason for the Gunners’ failure to win any silverware despite competing in four different tournaments.
Arsenal won their last trophy in 2005 by defeating Manchester United on penalties in FA Cup. Since then, it has been more than six years and the Gunners are still without any silverware.
The recently concluded 2010/11 season looked very promising for http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Arsenal-c38429 and Wenger’s men were strong favourites to deliver at least a trophy as they were playing in four different competitions: UEFA Champions League, Barclays Premier League, FA Cup and Carling
Cup.
However, Arsene Wenger blamed the Gunners’ disappointing Carling Cup final defeat to Birmingham City as the turning point of the season. The Arsenal manager feels his team lacked experience as they never really recovered from the Carling Cup defeat which
eventually cost them the Barclays Premier League title.
He said, “I believe we have not dealt well with our disappointments because there was room to win this championship quite easily.”
Following the Carling Cup defeat, Arsenal’s extraordinary start to the season began to derail. The Gunners were ultimately knocked out of the UEFA Champions League despite winning the first leg against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Barcelona-c38604.
Moreover, Gunners’ FA cup quest also came to end when Manchester United bettered them 2-0 in the quarter-final of the competition. And most importantly, the Gunners endured a terrible run in the Barclays Premier League and only managed to 12 points from
their last 11 matches.
Arsenal managed only two wins from the last 12 matches and finished fourth in the League standings despite being in top two of the table for almost the entire season.
However, Arsene Wenger hailed his team’s efforts in the recently concluded 2010/11 campaign and admitted that it was a very disappointing season for the Gunners. However, he is determined to leave no stone unturned for next season’s preparations.
“I worked maybe harder this year than ever. It is very frustrating because when you look at the amount of effort we have put in and what we have got at the end of the season - it's very difficult to accept.” He said.
Arsene Wenger is fully determined to boost his squad’s depth and quality as the Gunners are linked with number of players.
