Arsene Wenger: Jack Wilshere under more pressure than Cesc Fabregas
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger says that Jack Wilshere is under more pressure than Cesc Fabregas ever was due to the fact he's English.
Wilshere is rapidly developing as one of the best English players in the Premier League. He has already won his first cap for the national side under the management of Fabio Capello.
Fabregas broke into the Arsenal team when he was only 16-years-old and Wenger says Wilshere is under more pressure from fans and the media because of his nationality.
Wilshere is privileged in many ways to be at the right club where he will get security and guidance from the perfect manager. However, there is always going to be a chance that his game could be affected
while he is so young.
Lucky to be at Arsenal
Wilshere is very lucky to be at Arsenal for a number of reasons. Wenger is more experienced than anyone else in the game at bringing young players in through the ranks and giving them a chance in his senior
team.
Wenger will know the right times to step in and protect one of his youngest assets and he will know the right time to give Wilshere a rest from the pressures of playing in the Premier League.
Wilshere looks to be a very good touch player and he is at the perfect club to develop his control and passing. He is training and playing with better players every day and this means his game is only
going to grow and develop.
"The problem Wilshere will face is the pressure and expectation level will be higher for him than Fabregas because there is a demand inside the country.
It was good for Fabregas not to play in his country because you have a quieter development and the pressure is less big on you," said Wenger.
The dangers of pressure and attention
There are big dangers linked with pressure and attention. Wilshere has only known positive press so far from the media. The real test will come when the British media gets
on his back and starts criticising his game on a daily basis.
The fact he's already won an England cap suggests that he is going to figure in the international team over the next few years. The England team is one of the hardest sides
to play for because of the pressure and expectation. This could severely mute the influence Wilshere has in big games.
He will already have some sort of expectation about his own game. This can force mistakes during games similar to the red card he picked up in the win over Birmingham City
at the weekend. He was clearly annoyed at losing possession, which forced a lunge on Birmingham's Nikola Zigic.
"You must also say his maturity shows in the game, the influence he has on the game at 18 years old is something that should not
be hidden. He is a beautiful player and he has the science of the game to be influential in the Premier League," added Wenger.
Betting advice
There is no doubt that Wilshere is a quality player with a long career ahead of him at both Arsenal and in the England team. Back Wilshere to set-up a lot of assists and
get on the score sheet from time to time. He's still at a stage in his career where he has a lot to prove and the odds will be quite long on him scoring.
Arsenal is a good bet for success on any front. There is more value to be had in the Champions League because this is the competition that no one expects Arsenal to win
and the odds are long.
