Arsene Wenger: More to come from Samri Nasri
Arsenal FC’s manager Arsene Wenger has spoken that fans will see more from midfielder Samir Nasri in the coming weeks. The French international bagged a brace in Arsenal’s 2-1 home win over city rivals Fulham FC on Saturday in the
English Premier League.
Nasri opened the scoring in the 19th minute to give Gunners the lead at the Emirates, before Diomansy Kamara equalized on the stroke of the half-hour mark.
The 23-year old player once again came to his side’s rescue in the 74th minute, when he latched on to a pass from Robin van Persie and beat Mark Schwarzer to restore the lead for the home side.
Wenger was extremely pleased after the match and praised Nasri on displaying a brilliant performance. The French tactician also acknowledged that his No. 8 was getting better day by day. The double against the Cottagers took Samir’s
goal tally to 11 in all competitions and 8 in the Premier League.
He said, “What's important as a manager is to get the best out of a player. There's more to come from him. Many questioned me when I took him but he's showing he's an exceptional talent. It was a combination of touch, intelligence,
special talent and calmness as well. He has more variation in his game: turns, runs in behind without the ball, and as well coming to the ball and taking it to his feet. So his game is improving and he is, of course, more efficient.”
Arsenal’s win on Saturday took them to the top of the Premier League, 1 point ahead of Manchester United. The Red Devils were not involved in league action at the weekend as their match against Blackpool FC was postponed due to poor pitch condition.
However, the 61-year old manager asked his players to keep their feet firmly on the ground after claiming top spot in the league table.
He said, “We have the spirit, we have the quality but we face tough opponents. And it will be down, as I have said already many times here, to consistency. We are far from winning the championship yet. The only thing I can say: we have the desire and
the spirit to fight for it. Will it be good enough? We'll have the answer in May.”
Wenger’s only cause of concern during the game was the injury caused to Laurent Koscielny that resulted from the clash of heads with fellow centre back Sebastian Squillaci. The defender suffered from a concussion and has to be taken off from the field
after 32 minutes.
No further update has been provided by the club’s medical staff regarding the player’s physical condition.
