Arsene Wenger admits Thomas Vermaelen might not start against Chelsea – Premier League Update
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has gone on to reveal that Belgian international http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Thomas-Vermaelen-c35002 is more than likely to feature on the bench in the team’s game against Chelsea this coming Sunday.
The defender went under the knife earlier this season and made his long awaited comeback in the team’s Carling Cup game against Bolton Wanderers this past week. However, despite him playing in that game, the manager is not looking to risk the player’s fitness
as might just be inclined to conserve the player a little more.
When talking about the defender and the possibility of him starting for the Gunners, Wenger is quoted to have said: “Vermaelen might be available to be in the squad”
He then addressed the player limping off in the game against Bolton, as he went on to state:
“We’ll have to assess him. He is not injured. He came off with a calf problem on Tuesday in the Carling Cup.”
“It was cramp because he has not played for a long time and he only had one training session. As I say he is not injured but he might be a little bit short for a game of that intensity.”
Arsenal have been displaying some of the worst defensive displays in the club’s history, as they have been conceding goals left and right. However, the fact that the team has started to pick their form up, along with the fact that a majority of the defenders
are now able to communicate with each other, all of that might change in the near future.
When talking about his defenders, Wenger is quoted to have said: “It is a good issue to have. I think we are defensively more solid than some time ago.”
“In the last five or six games it is the most solid that we have looked. But no matter who plays, for me, they are all good players.”
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 is now going to be the first real test that the team faces, after witnessing this rise in their form and should they come out on top, it would confirm that the Gunners are more than just serious about heading back into the
top four.
