Arsene Wenger admits that half of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Arsenal-c38429 wanted to leave in the summers – Premier League Update
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has shockingly gone on to reveal that half of the Gunners squad wanted to part ways with the team in the summers.
Wenger is talking about the same transfer window during which the likes of Cesc Fabregas, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Samir-Nasri-c32360 and Gael Clichy walked out of the Emirates, in order to pursue a much more productive future elsewhere.
Nonetheless, Wenger has finally gone on to reveal that had he not placed a firm footing on the situation, the damage done to the team could have been much worse.
Wenger is quoted to have said: "It was a very difficult summer because half the dressing room wanted to leave"
Despite there being numerous claims over the fact that the players left the team for a brighter future, Wenger believes that the only reason the players are now looking to leave, is in order to ensure a much higher pay cheque.
"No, it's not that [players have to leave to win titles]," said Wenger. "The problem isn't that. Frankly, if you compare what Manchester City have won in the past and what Arsenal have won, then you don't go to Manchester City to win titles. Players go to
Manchester City because they pay much better than Arsenal.”
The manager then admitted that despite the truth being hard to believe, the players these days were more interested in personal gain, rather than becoming a part of the team itself.
Wenger then turned his attention to the pending player contracts at the club, since the likes of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Theo-Walcott-c34873 are all set to be nearing the end of their current contracts with the club.
However, the manger believes that those things are now irrelevant, since he is more focused on trying to get the best performances out of his squad members instead.
"Today I'm not asking myself whether Van Persie is going to extend his contract in 18 months' time," said Wenger. "For me what is important is that he plays well for us on Wednesday [against Marseille]. After that the next match.
Following the sales of two of their top players, Arsenal have had a very topsy turvey season. The team has lost four of their opening eight games and really need to start coming together as a team.
As it stands Wenger has till the end of the season to make something of the players that he has, or he could risk losing out on a number of key player in the near future.
