Magician on the pitch, short statured Andrei Arshavin has looked awry throughout the season for the gunners. Arsenal top ace player is having a rusty patch; however he looked animated in few games but that too for short periods. Renowned for his sheer determination
and goal scoring ability, Arshavin has failed to impress so far in the current season. He has scored a few goals and assists but couldn’t reflect his best. In this season he mostly looked tired and was often seen isolated on the pitch. Once he attacks, he
rarely seems willing to go back and defend. His lack of drive is dipping his form and he is often seen warming the bench in important matches.
However, Frenchman Arsene Wenger is still positive about the Russian. While talking to the media Wenger saved his back and said, “If you look at the stats, he is the player who has created more chances than everybody else in the Premier League this season.”
Wenger pointed that Arshavin’s game is based on risk. He further commented, “He tries to make incisive passes so of course when he takes one risk and it doesn’t work for him he takes another one. So sometimes people are impatient with his decision making.”
There is no doubt that the fans are losing their patience for Arshavin. In fact the fans expecting much from him based on his previous shows, but Andrei is not even able to spark up at the most important occasions. However, Wenger justified his signing by
saying “He doesn’t frustrate me because I invite him to play the game that is Arshavin’s game. That means to go forward and provoke. There are some days it doesn’t work but Arshavin has great quality: he analyses very well, is very honest and has a fantastic
objective assessment of his own performance. He is very demanding for himself so I have a huge respect for him.”
Lately the gunners have been playing some exceptional football; however the results are not as desired. This is leads to mounting pressure and players like Arshavin are to be blamed. Wenger appreciated the fact about fans expectations and said, “The fans
were frustrated. That comes from when you don’t win. The fans are demanding. We were not consistent technically and so they picked on our inconsistencies.” Experts questioned on the winning desire of Arshavin. Wenger clearly negated saying, “It is not through
a lack of desire with Arshavin. He wants to do well.” Wenger summarised the situation and said that it is just about the lack of confidence of the midfielder that halts him from entering gunners’ top league.
