Arsene Wenger backs Arsenal to perform against Chelsea
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has dismissed talk of his side being out of the title race only six games into the Premier League season, adding that his team has the quality to beat defending champions Chelsea on Sunday.
Arsenal are third in the league on 11 points, having missed their opportunity to close in on leaders Chelsea after a 3–2 defeat to West Bromwich Albion last weekend.
Despite the set-back, which came after a sub-par performance by several Arsenal players, Wenger said that his team will go into the encounter with Carlo Ancelotti's team with a realistic hope of securing three points.
"I believe we have enough strength to win the game and that is what we want to do. If we turn up with a great performance – and I am convinced we will – we will beat them. What is important is: have we the potential to beat Chelsea - I say yes. Are Chelsea
a good team? I say yes, but we can beat a good team," the Frenchman said.
Lack of silverware
While the club's place in the top-four appears secure and the club's finances are in good shape, Wenger has been criticized for not bringing enough silverware to the Emirates Stadium in recent years.
Arsenal reached the 2006 Champions League final, but have not won a title since overcoming Manchester United in the 2005 FA Cup final.
Wenger's team are four points behind Chelsea in the league, and the long-serving manager insisted that there is no reason to discount Arsenal's chances of winning the title so early into the season.
"It's not too early because it is a confrontation between two top teams and it will certainly give an indication of the strengths of the two teams, that is for sure," he said, looking ahead to Sunday's clash at Stamford Bridge.
