Arsene Wenger calls on Arsenal to step it up against Chelsea
Arsene Wenger has issued a rallying call ahead of his team’s Boxing Day clash with Chelsea at the Emirates Stadium. The Frenchman has called on his troops to do their utmost to get the win to remain in the title race as Arsenal look to bounce back from their
defeat against Manchester United at Old Trafford in their last league encounter.
Arsenal are currently 2nd in the English Premier League table behind Manchester United, whereas Chelsea are 4th at the moment. Manchester City find themselves 3rd in the table but Roberto Mancini’s men could’ve been higher
up the table if they had secured all three points against Everton at the Eastlands stadium on Monday. It has been a tough two weeks for the English Premier League as several key fixtures had been called off on the previous weekend due to excessive snowfall.
However, the Arsenal versus Chelsea encounter is set to take place at Emirates Stadium in London where the Gunners have a particularly well functioning under-soil heating system. Arsenal have been criticized in the past for failing to live up to their fans'
expectations in their big matchups against the likes of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 and Manchester United in the league. Wenger in his latest interview conceded the stated point and called on his team to give that extra effort which might bring them glory in the coming months.
Arsene stated, "Of course we have a point to prove given our record against the big teams. You have to show that you are up to the level expected from you in these games. That's the obstacle to get over. At home in the big games, you want to win. We don't
really think about the record because the statistics are history and every game is a new start. Every player has lost a game before he has won one. One day, he wins. We have to make sure for us that day is on Monday.”
Wenger went onto emphasize the point that his team is still a relatively young unit which has not had a lot of time to gel together on the pitch. He also pointed out that three years ago Arsenal didn’t lose any of their matches against Chelsea, Manchester
United and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809 but they still lost the championship race due to their failures in matches against smaller sides in the league.
He concluded by saying, "Our statistics recently are against us because we have a very young team. But three years ago, we lost the small games and didn't lose the big games but still lost the championship so we have to combine both sides of it.” The big
news for Arsenal is that their two star players, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Didier-Drogba-c11044 are set to feature in the starting line-up as well on Sunday, 26th
of December, 2010.
