Arsene Wenger confident Cesc Fabregas will stay at Arsenal
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has said he is confident that Cesc Fabregas will stay at the English Premier League giants for a few more seasons.
The 23-year-old was the subject of the summer’s biggest transfer saga when he was cited to be close to making a return to his former club Barcelona.
Though Fabregas wanted to move back to Spain, the Gunners refused to accept either of the Catalan giants’ two bids and retained the services of a player that they have under contract for another four years.
Though Barcelona is believed to be ready to make an improved offer for the 2010 FIFA World Cup winner next summer, Wenger told shareholders at Arsenal’s AGM on Thursday, 21 October, that he expected Fabregas to remain with the Gunners "...for a few more
years."
"Barcelona has an attraction because he grew up there. At the end of the day, I believe he wants to win with this club. For how long, I don't know but hopefully for many, many years. I'm not pessimistic. I'm confident we will keep him for a few more years.
He deeply loves this club, believe me. If he did not love the club, he would have gone."
Wenger added that he had money to make signings when the transfer window opens for business in January. However, when pressed on a potential move for Wayne Rooney, who has confirmed that he wants to leave Manchester United, the Frenchman did not offer a
firm answer, claiming that the situation was "too sensitive" to discuss.
Meanwhile, Wenger said that he was happy at Arsenal and would stay at the club as long as he felt that he was having a positive effect on their fortunes.
"I have to consider that this is a job that demands huge physical energy and as long as I have it I know I will have the desire. This is the club of my heart, the club of my life, and as long as I can contribute to help this club to be successful I will
do it."
