Arsene Wenger confident Sebastian Squillaci can play vital role in Gunners squad for rest of season
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has gone on to express his faith in Sebastian Squillaci to step up his game in this time of need for the team. At the moment Arsenal are down to just http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Laurent-Koscielny-c21742 and Squillaci as their senior defenders in the team, with
both http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Thomas-Vermaelen-c35002 out of the team due to injury.
Vermaelen managed to pick up an Achilles injury way back in September but following six set-backs on his road to recovery, the player has now been ruled out for the rest of the season. On the other hand Djourou went on to suffer a shoulder dislocation in
Arsenal’s FA Cup defeat to Manchester United last weekend and has now been given a time frame of at least six weeks to make his comeback.
Nonetheless, Wenger seems to be keeping his cool and has stated that he is not worried about placing so much pressure on the shoulders of the former Seville defender. The manager is convinced that Squillaci has the experience and the capability to display
the form that he did back when he was at Sevilla, or even re-hit the form he displayed with the Gunners at the start of the season. The defender had recently also managed to pick up the pace and put in a solid performance against Stoke City.
Arsene Wenger talked about Squillaci and is reported to have said, “I think he had a good start to the season, after that he had a little dip in December. But the recent games he played, like Stoke, he did well, so I do not especially worry about that."
It appears that the manager is doing his best to keep the fans and the team from panicking, by placing his trust in a defender who has on a number of occasions not looked the part. However based on the situation that Arsenal are in at the moment, this seems
to be the best possible option for the manager. This is because of the fact that the manger can’t go ahead and make an emergency signing for a defender and hence he has to build the confidence of the players that he has at the moment and the Frenchman seems
to be doing a great job at that.
However Wenger himself will now be well aware of the fact that no matter what he does, if he fails to make a handful of signings in the summers to fix his squad, he will lose the trust of a number of fans and players at the club.
