Arsene Wenger confirms signing of a new defender in near future
Arsenals manager, Arsene Wenger has gone on to admit that http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Thomas-Vermaelen-c35002 has suffered yet another setback on his road to recovery and as a result, the manager has vowed to search for a quality defender and bring him in before the end of the season.
Thomas Vermaelen last made an appearance for the North London side on August 28th in 2010. He then went on to suffer an Achilles injury while on international duty for the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Belgium-c2850 international side. It was initially assumed that the player would
be out for only a couple of weeks, but a series of set-backs have now left the Arsenal medical staff wondering as to when the player will be fully fit again.
On the other hand, Sebastien Squillaci the team’s other experienced defender also picked up a knock in the team’s FA Cup match against Leeds. Squillaci went on to suffer a hamstring strain and is now expected to be out of action for the rest of the month.
As a result, Arsenal might have to resort to the likes of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Alexandre-c4885 Song to provide cover in the heart of their defense. But with Sagna serving a three match ban, for the red card that he picked up against Manchester City, Arsenal are really
short of options.
Arsene Wenger is reported to have said, "Vermaelen had another setback on Saturday that we are concerned with. We are consulting top specialists around the world. He has another check today, and we will know more on Wednesday. Unfortunately I can't give
you any precise date, but I concede that, with this little setback from Thomas, we are in a situation where we will have to look around."
Wenger continued: "Squillaci will be out for a maximum of three weeks, minimum two. It is a hamstring injury but it is not too bad - a grade one. He will be back in two weeks if all goes well."
Arsenal have been linked with the likes of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Gary-Cahill-c14439 and Mertesacker, but at the moment no real moves for the players have been made by Wenger.
If Wenger is to secure the services of a quality defender, then he is going to have to act fast. Most of the top teams in Europe are currently on the lookout for defenders and unlike Arsenal, they will be looking to spend out of their noses to land those
players.
Wenger has in the past been more than just hesitant in spending money on signings, with the previous big money signing being worth around fourteen million pounds. However, the Gunners boss will be well aware of the fact that he might have to spend way more
than that and potentially break the bank to bring in at least one world class defender before the end of the season.
If Arsenal manage to bring in the same reinforcements to their defense, as they have to their attacking line-up, then it is safe to say that the Gunners could potentially be on their way to landing some silverware at the end of the season.
