Arsene Wenger defends his spending policy; Nicklas Bendtner remains ambitious
Arsenal FC manager Arsene Wenger has revealed that he will not be spending in the January transfer window. Wenger believes that his current squad has enough depth to fulfil his wish of winning trophies at the end of the season.
The French manager has not made any ‘superstar’ signing in the past few seasons and rather relied on the crop of his youth academy. Some critics associate Arsene’s reluctance to splash cash on new singings to the club’s inability
to win any trophy for nearly five years.
It is reported that the north-London club has made a total of £56million in profit this year.
However, the manager defended his thrifty approach and said,
“We respect our budget. You look at the clubs who lose £100m or £150m and if we do that then we go bust. We pay what we can afford. I'm amazed that people are amazed that we do that. I think what is surprising is that people don't respect that.”
Meanwhile, striker http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Nicklas-Bendtner-c27726 has expressed his desire to prove his worth to the manager and try to break in the 1st team line-up.
The Danish international has not enjoyed regular football this season. He suffered from an injury during the FIFA World Cup in http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/South-Africa-c757 this summer, which kept him on the sidelines for 4 months.
He returned to domestic action on 16th October, in a 2-1 home win against Birmingham City.
Since then he has only made 4 appearances for the Gunners and has scored just 1 goal.
Bendtner threatened to quit Arsenal in search of regular football, but now has decided to stay at north-London and fight for his place.
Nicklas faces a tough challenge within the squad for the centre-forward position after the arrival of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Marouane-Chamakh-c24294, from French side FC Bordeaux.
The Dane was also looking forward to end a trophy drought with Arsenal. The Gunners are 2nd in the English Premier League standings, 2 points behind league leaders Manchester United. The club has already progressed to
the round of 16 of the UEFA Champions League and are involved in the Football League Cup and The FA Cup as well.
Bendtner said, “I hope we will win something this season. We have a great chance in the Carling Cup which I hope we will take full advantage of. The FA Cup is coming up and we are still in the Champions League. I think it looks
positive."
