Arsene Wenger denies Arsenal’s interest in Per Mertesacker and says that he has ample defenders
Arsene Wenger has gone on to cause most Arsenal fans to suffer a major scare, as the manager has stated Arsenal have more than enough centre backs and don’t need to reinforce their back line.
The team was being linked with a move for German international http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Per-Mertesacker-c29680 and as a result, a series of questions were thrown towards Wenger in regards to this potential transfer.
However, just when everyone assumed that the manager would go on to confirm these rumours, he took a completely different route, as he rubbished these rumours and stated that Arsenal already have more than enough defenders and aren’t looking to sign anyone else.
When talking about the German international and the possibility of making more signings, Wenger is quoted to have said: "We currently have four central defenders, and thus we do not need any more"
It’s a wonder as to why Wenger isn’t targeting the German international. The defender currently only has a year left on his contract, which means that he won’t cost the team as much as some of the other players that they are targeting might.
It is rather surprising to hear these words from Wenger, regarding making moves for defenders before the transfer window closes. Arsenal were previously being linked with a move for a number of defenders and the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Arsenal-c38429 manager himself went on to confirm to this fact. As a result, many are wondering just what had happened over the course of the last few days.
According to most experts, Wenger could actually be playing with media. The manager seems to have realised that if he admitted that he was interested in a player publically, then his market price would sore exponentially and make him close to impossible to landing. As a result, the Frenchman is looking to make all his dealings in the background and then reveal them to the world when they are a hundred percent.
Irrelevant of what way the Arsenal team is looked at, they really need to make a number of defensive signings in order to ensure their stance in the Premier League. The team could really use one or two more centre backs and a full back. Should the Gunners go on to make these signings, they would finally have a squad which is complete and would have the ability to compete with the likes of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 and Manchester United.
It is now a wait to see what Wenger’s next move is going to be.
