Arsene Wenger faces more injury problems
Arsene Wenger has some big decisions to make in the coming weeks. It was recently revealed that both http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Thomas-Vermaelen-c35002 and Sebastien Squillaci will be sidelined due to injury, forcing the Arsenal manager to consider an emergency signing in the January transfer
window.
Wenger has now confirmed that the injuries to his two most important defenders are more serious than he initially thought. The Frenchman said, “Vermaelen had another setback on Saturday that we are concerned with. We are consulting top specialists around
the world. He has another check today, and we will know more on Wednesday. Squillaci will be out for a maximum of three weeks, minimum two.”
The Arsenal manager went on to add that he is looking for a defender to consolidate his weakened defensive line. Wenger, who was recently awarded the World Coach of the Decade award, said, “Unfortunately I can't give you any precise date (about Vermaelen’s
return), but I concede that, with this little setback from Thomas, we are in a situation where we will have to look around (in the January transfer window).”
Thomas Vermaelen has been out due to an ankle injury since late August. It was believed that the defender would return to the first team by the start of this month; however, complications have delayed his return indefinitely. It is unknown when he will be
able to resume training with the squad.
Meanwhile, Sebastien Squillaci is set to be sidelined for at least two weeks due to the hamstring strain he picked up in the F.A Cup clash against Leeds.
Arsene Wenger now has only two first team defenders available to him; http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Johan-Djourou-c18779. It leaves the Arsenal manager in a tough situation. Wenger had previously stated that he had no intention of spending any money in the January transfer
