Arsene Wenger feels Arsenal have closed down the gap against Manchester United in recent years
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has claimed that the Gunners have closed down the gap against Manchester United in the recent years.
Wenger also admitted that Arsenal’s next game against Sir Alex Ferguson’s men is no longer a title decider as the Gunners were ruled out of the League race after suffering a defeat against Bolton Wanderers recently.
Arsene Wenger’s men were looking to win their first Premier League title since the 2003-04 season and were challenging Manchester United for the top spot. Arsenal’s home fixture against Manchester United on May 1, 2011 was being tipped as a title-deciding
match before the Gunners’ recent poor form ruled them out of the title chase.
Arsene Wenger’s side failed to perform in the most important week of the ongoing 2010-11 season. They only managed to get two points out of a possible nine after they drew against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809 and Tottenham Hotspur and suffered a defeat against Bolton Wanderers.
Moreover, Arsenal’s recent record against Manchester United is also not very impressive as they have only won once in the last 11 fixtures against the Red Devils. The Gunners have been already beaten twice by Sir Alex Ferguson’s men in the current season
but Wenger still thinks that his side has performed well against United.
Wenger told the reporters, “I feel we have made up a lot of ground and we have a good opportunity to show that on Sunday. The game was targeted as being a decider for the championship [but] it certainly will not be. We still have to give absolutely everything
and you never know, if we beat Man United, it would come back to six points.”
“It is important for us to show some fighting spirit, some fighting attitude and some pride. There is more at stake on Sunday than just the mathematics,” added the Arsenal manager.
The Gunners are virtually out of the Premier League title race as they are nine points adrift of the League leaders United and are now looking to secure a UEFA Champions League spot by finishing amongst the top four.
