Arsene Wenger feels Bayern Munich boosted team spirit – Football news
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Arsenal-c38429’s manager, Arsene Wenger has said that his side’s second leg performance against Bayern Munich in the UEFA Champions League proved to be fruitful for the club, since it helped them close the gap on Tottenham Hotspur.
There was a point in the season, when the Gunners were trailing their neighbours by seven points. However, as things stand, Arsenal are now one point ahead of Tottenham. Should the Gunners go on and win their last game against Newcastle United, then Tottenham
would stand no chance of making it into the top four once again.
Wenger is of the opinion that his sides performance against Munich is the key factor to them turning things around in the second half of the season. Arsenal went on to beat Munich at the Allianz Arena, and they only lost out to the team on away goals. The
team’s performance in that game was arguably the best they put in this season, but it seems to have done a lot more for the team’s spirits.
“The Bayern Munich away game was important and you could feel, after that, we could do it. That helped,” Wenger told reporters. “I never felt this team lacked focus or desire to do well but we lacked confidence for a while. This team suffered for a long
time from a lack of confidence because talisman http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Robin-van-Persie-c31380 had been taken away.”
“We then got some new players in and lost the first big games. Suddenly there was scepticism surrounding the team. You could see that,” he said.
The Gunners boss then went on to admit that turning a seven point deficit around is rather amazing to say the least, especially against a club like Tottenham.
Wenger added, “Seven points on Spurs is a big comeback and you cannot say Tottenham have not done well recently, they won their games. We needed not to lose any of ours.”
Nonetheless, Arsenal can still go on and give Tottenham a chance to finish in the top four, should the North London club fail to win their game on the last day of the season.
For this very reason, the team cannot start slacking off just yet, since they need to have more focus than ever before, as they head into the last game of the season.
