Arsene Wenger has faith in Nicklas Bendtner
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger believes that Danish striker Nicklas Bendtner will prove his doubters wrong when he returns to action this season.
Bendtner is expected to return to the Arsenal squad for the Premier league match against Birmingham City on Saturday, October 16.
The player has not started a game this season after injuring himself in the World Cup in South Africa. The injury is believed to have been a recurrence of an old groin injury after Bendtner crashed his car in September of last year.
"He was really, really handicapped by groin problems, but they have gone now," said Wenger.
The Arsenal striker scored 12 goals in 29 appearances last season, but he has often frustrated the home fans. Bendtner has failed to deliver when the pressure is on to turn in consistent performances.
"Let's not forget that since last November, Nicklas has produced here and there, but never had a consistent presence because of his injuries," added the Arsenal manager.
Wenger will hope that the striker will live up to his reputation as the fans have only seen glimpses of the Danish forward’s quality.
The 22-year-old will be expected to deliver this season and Bendtner's place will be under threat with the arrival of French striker Marouane Chamakh.
Wenger urged Bendtner to show the potential that saw him arrive at the club in 2004.
"Apart from the World Cup, we have not seen the real Nicklas Bendtner for a long, long time," said Wenger.
The manager believes that Wenger will make an impact this season and that he is over the injuries that have caused his erratic performances.
The Danish striker will hope to feature in this weekend’s Premier League match at some point.
"He is the closest he has been to his best for a while," added Wenger.
Arsenal fans will hope that they will get a chance to see the player produce and prove that he has got what it takes to be an Arsenal player.
