Arsene Wenger hints at signing a defender in January
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Arsenal-c38429 manager Arsene Wenger has gone on to drop a number of hints, which have lead many to believe that the manager is looking to bring in a defender or two in the January transfer window.
The Gunners are currently missing http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Santos-c32532 and Carl Jenkinson, all of whom have gone on to pick up a number of serious injuries.
Sagna went on to break his leg in October and Santos is out till February, following a surgery to his leg. Should Gibbs also fail to recover in time, the manager is going to have no choice, but to go into the transfer market and bring in a player or two.
However, Wenger remained adamant on the fact that he would consider making a loan deal, even if he did look into the possibility of signing someone.
Wenger, when talking about Gibbs and how his situation could impact his spending in January is quoted to have said: "He [Gibbs] will see a specialist again and if something happens there that he has had a real setback then we could [look at loans], possibly, yes"
"That's what we are doing. We are starting to look at players if Gibbs is not back."
Wenger also went on to state that it wasn’t a smart idea to play his centre backs on the flanks, considering that playing out of position always led to problems.
The manager then went on to add: "No solution will be ideal because whatever we do, two players will have to play out of position"
"We have centre-backs who do not like to play at full-back and we are a team who likes to go forward through the full-backs, so they are in a position where they have to produce different games.”
Thankfully for Arsenal, the team can look into readjusting their squad in January. The team has picked up the pace lately and it would be devastating to see them fall from grace, due to some injuries.
All in all, it is now a wait to see just how Wenger handles the situation that the team is in, in the January transfer market.
