Arsene Wenger looking to hold onto Andrei Arshavin
Arsenal’s manager, Arsene Wenger, has gone on to state that http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Andrei-Arshavin-c5771 is still a great player, despite the current slump in form that the player is experiencing.
Arshavin has had to face some heavy criticism this season, for his less than average performances of late.
The “Russian Assassin” added to his poor displays, by missing a couple of sitters and displaying just how poor someone’s first touch can be, during Arsenal’s 1-0 defeat against Ipswich Town in the Carling Cup.
As a result a number of reports have emerged, claiming that the twenty-nine year old attacker could be on his way to Juventus for a whopping seventeen million pounds.
However, Wenger has come to the defence of his player and stated:
"As soon as a player doesn't play fantastically well, he is criticised. We all know that. I am very happy with Arshavin. I believe he is a great player - he is going through a period where it is more difficult for him at the moment".
The manager insisted on clearing the air that his player would not be leaving to Juve and then went onto point out, that we should not forget what the player is capable off.
Everyone has an off day or two and just because Arshavin is facing all his off days together, it doesn’t mean he has become the worst player in the world all of a sudden.
Wenger then went on to add, that the players age and the reactions that he is getting from the fans is getting the better of the player and that he will be back to his best, after a short break.
Wenger added, "After a breather of a few games he will come back stronger than ever because he works very hard in training. As far as I know, I believe he and his wife are happy in London, but what is very important as well is that I am very happy with him".
Despite having said all of that, the one question that comes to mind is, if Arsenal can offload a twenty-nine year old player for as much as seventeen million pounds, then shouldn’t they?
Wenger is clearly being defensive about his record signing, but at the current moment it seems as if the money that is being offered is just too good to turndown. However, if the Russian manages to pick his form up again, then perhaps he should stick around
and see off his contract with the Gunners.
That being said, the offer from Juventus is sure to have gotten Wenger thinking twice.
