Arsene Wenger looking to make emergency signing
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has indicated that he could be forced into making an emergency signing this month, if defender Sebastian Squillaci's hamstring injury turns out to be serious. It is still unclear as to how serious the player’s injury is, but
Wegner feels he doesn’t want to take any chances and would like to bring in some reinforcements at the back.
If Squillaci doesn’t manage to recover on time from his knock, then Arsenal will take on Ipswich Town in their scheduled Carling Cup semi-final, with only two recognised defenders.
Squillaci picked up the knock to his hamstring during Arsenal’s third round FA Cup tie against Leeds United. Arsenal managed to salvage a draw in the game, thanks to a last-gasp penalty from captain Cesc Fabregas. The Gunners will face Leeds United in a
replay at Elland Road in just over a week’s time.
Arsenal are already short on defenders, with the team’s star centre-back http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Laurent-Koscielny-c21742
and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Johan-Djourou-c18779 to choose from in the heart of defence. Wenger told reporters, "If we only have two centre-backs then that cannot work with the number of centre-backs we have. If Squillaci has a problem then we must quickly go out for a player."
Arsenal currently need as many fit players in the squad as they can. This is because Wenger knows that having been paired with Ipswich Town; they stand a very good chance of actually landing a trophy this season. On the other hand, the team has been paired
with European giants Barcelona in the Champions League and the last time these two sides met, Arsenal were missing fourteen players. As a result, the team lost 6-3 on aggregate. Keen on avoiding a similar fate this time around, Wenger will be hoping to have
at least three quality centre-backs for the game. As a result, the manager is reportedly looking to land at least one quality defender in the next week or so.
