Arsene Wenger pleased with another fine display from Jack Wilshere
Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has praised the maturity of youngster Jack Wilshere, who turned in another strong performance for the team in the Champions League on Tuesday, 19 October.
Wilshere, 18, started for Arsenal against Ukranian champions Shakhtar Donetsk and scored his first European goal after combining well with Marouane Chamakh and Tomas Rosicky.
Wenger, who has a history of fostering young talent, having brought Arsenal's current captain Cesc Fabregas through the youth ranks at the club, said Wilshere's third European game of the season showed
signs of class from the Englishman.
"He looks mature. His maturity is lightyears ahead of his age; that's a sign of talent. I'm happy that Jack got a goal because he ran after that for such a long time," the Frenchman said to
Sky Sports, adding that he was pleased his team's focus in the match, which finished 5–1 in favour of the Londoners.
"I think we played against good team, but we were sharp, technically always at a good level and kept the pressure on them and the goals came I think more because they got fatigued chasing after the ball
and [the goals] came naturally."
Wilshere: Arsenal ready for double challenge
Wilshere himself said he was happy with his performance in his 12th appearance of the season.
“I’ve had a lot of good games now and scored a couple of goals, so hopefully I can get more goals now. I think it showed we’re ready for this competition and the Premier League games too, so hopefully
we can keep it up."
With three wins in as many games and 14 goals scored in the Champions League, Wenger's team will now look ahead to the weekend's Premier League fixture away to Manchester City.
Arsenal, third in the league table, are three points behind Roberto Mancini's team, meaning a win would see them draw level on points.
