Arsene Wenger promises success for Arsenal
Arsenal is going to face Manchester City on Sunday, in a crucial match in English Premier League. Although, City is on top of their game at the moment, but Wenger believes that his side is capable of doing special things in this season.
In the midweek, Arsenal played against Shakhtar Donetsk, in a Champions League encounter. The young Gunners emerged victorious with a clear margin of 5-1, in a match dominated completely by Wenger’s players. Now, Arsenal has made its way into the next stage
of Champions League, while they have completely restored their lost form. All the major players, including Cesc Fabregas, Samir Nasri and Marouane Chamakh were on target.
After this performance, Arsene Wenger, the manager of Arsenal, has restored his belief in his young players. He said that his philosophy of building rather than buying success is about to deliver its fruits. Arsenal fans are waiting for a long time for their
next trophy, as they won their last one in 2005, by winning the FA Cup. Since then, there has been a drought in Arsenal seasons.
Currently, Arsenal is sitting in third place in English Premier League, with a difference of five points from the leaders Chelsea. Their start to new season was not particularly impressive, as they have failed to win four of their eight matches. Also, Arsenal’s
trip to Stamford Bridge, for a match against Chelsea, brought a lot of criticism as well. However, the players are starting to click once again, which means that things would only improve in the future.
In the past one week, after the international break, Arsenal fans have been hearing nothing but good news. The most important was that two of their injured players look set to return to first team duties. Theo Walcott, who got himself injured while playing
for England, played for almost fifteen minutes during the Champions League game. Walcott had a terrific start to his season, as he has already netted four goals. His return would definitely improve Arsenal’s attacking abilities, because of his pace and agility
on the flanks.
Apart from Walcott, Nicklas Bendtner also looks set to stage a comeback. Since his injury while playing for Denmark, in the World Cup, Bendtner has been out of action. However, he has recovered well, as he was given some playing time as a substitute, one
week ago. With his return, Arsenal’s attacking options would improve further.
Despite of these assurances, the injury issues continue to trouble Wenger. Thomas Vermaelen would remain out because of problems with his Achilles tendon. Bacary Sagna might return for the match, but Laurent Koscielny remains a doubt for Sunday’s match.
During the same press interview, Wenger gave an indication that Arsenal could buy a couple of players in winter. Wenger said that he always avoided buying players because it is hard for them to gel with the current team. But, the resources are available
which might push him to sign a player or two. Nevertheless, there is a cry from Arsenal fans to buy a new goal-keeper because of the goal-keeping issues. So, there might be a goal-keeper coming to Arsenal in the winter.
Wenger also expressed his hope regarding Arsenal’s captain, Fabregas. Wenger hoped that the player stays at Arsenal for a few more seasons, as there are still five years left on his contract. After these comments, Fabregas also came out in support of Arsenal.
Although, he previously said that Arsenal players lack a winning mentality, but he gave a completely contrasting statement this time. He showed his belief in his teammates and promised to bring success to the club.
Tomorrow’s match is very important for Arsenal, as it would decide the future of their title challenge. The most important thing is that Arsenal keeps City in their sight, which is only possible if the young Gunners beat Manchester City. This would not be
easy as the match would be played in the City of Manchester Stadium. Nevertheless, the focus would be on winning, and if the youngsters can reproduce a similar form which they exhibited against Shakhtar, this feat is definitely achievable.
