Arsene Wenger rules http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Arsenal-c38429 out of title race
Arsenal manager, Arsene Wenger has gone on to rule out the Gunners from winning the Premier League, as he feels the team is in no position to finish on top at the end of the season.
The Gunners took on Manchester City in the Premier League, in a game that was building up to be one of the biggest games of the season.
Arsenal went into the game with a tremendous streak and an eight game run without a loss in the Premier league. On the other hand, City had lost their game against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 and were looking for some redemption in the game.
The match played out with both the teams going at each other, however, in the end a http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/David-Silva-c10601 goal in the fifty second minute ended up putting the Gunners to bed.
As a result, Arsenal are now sitting twelve points behind Manchester City and the difference in points seems to be a little too big, as Wenger feels his side can’t make up the difference over the course of the season.
When talking about the game and its implications on the Gunners season, Wenger is quoted to have said: "Unfortunately it's a game we couldn't afford to lose because it puts us too much [behind City].’
He then admitted a win would have put the Gunners in a favourable position and would have seen the team possess a real chance of landing the Premier League crown at the end of the season. With the players returning for injuries and with the confidence that
the team had, things would have fallen into place for the North London club.
"If we had won the game it would have put us six points behind and with our full-backs coming back, and (Jack) Wilshere and (Abou) Diaby, we would have a better squad in the second half of the season.”
Nonetheless, the manager feels that his side are still going to push for a spot at the top
"It will be difficult to close the gap on City, but we will try.
"This is a game we couldn't afford to lose and that's why it's difficult to take.”
"We will continue to fight and there are a lot of positives.
"The team has made a lot of progress since August and the team can be proud of it."
Should Wenger be able to help his side pick up a maximum number of points over the course of the coming months, then it wouldn’t be surprising to see the Gunners go on and push for a spot at the top, once the season comes to a close.
