Arsene Wenger says Cesc Fabregas going nowhere
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has played down rumours linking club captain Cesc Fabregas with a move to Barcelona. Spanish media has made claims that an agreement has been reached between the two clubs for the 23-year-old midfielder.
The summer-long tug of war between Arsenal and Barcelona does not seem to rest. Fabregas, who climbed the ranks at Barcelona as a youngster before switching to Arsenal in 2003, had expressed his desire to return to his former club this summer, but the 30 million pounds bid was rejected by Arsenal. Fabregas holds huge amount of respect for Arsene Wenger, who has been a mentor to him since he was 16 and has stated that he would only want to leave Arsenal in peace.
Fabregas is considered a long-term replacement to Ballon d’Or favourite and Spanish teammate Xavi Hernandez at Barcelona. The Spaniard was part of the batch, which produced the likes of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Gerard-c14664 Pique, Pedro Rodriguez and Lionel Messi and he has stated that Barcelona would be the only club he would play for should he leave Arsenal.
Nonetheless, the Arsenal manager has rubbished rumours about any agreement reached between the two clubs and stated he was not amused by such nonsense.
"I have a good sense of humour, but I don't understand this one. I cannot see how people can say things like that without us knowing it. We have the contract of the player and we would inform you if we would sell the player. We sell nobody," stated the manager following his side’s 1-1 draw to Leeds United in the FA Cup. Arsenal was en route to a shock loss to the Championship side when Leeds found the opener. The side was trailing until the last minute, but Fabregas stepped up to take a spot kick won by Walcott in the 88th minute.
The draw means that Arsenal would now have to travel to Elland Road to face Leeds United in a FA Cup 3rd round replay. If the match results in a stalemate, the match would be forced into extra time and/or a penalty shootout.
