Arsene Wenger says Manchester United comeback unlikely
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has claimed that it would be hard for Manchester United to bounce back after suffering their first League defeat of the 2010-11 season.
Manchester United, who mostly enjoyed the top spot of the table, went unbeaten in 29-league matches; however, the Red Devils were beaten recently by Wolverhampton Wanderers at Molineux.
Sir Alex Ferguson’s team was 20 matches short of matching Arsenal’s Invincibles, who went 49 matches undefeated in the League. Arsenal manager has claimed it would be psychologically difficult for Manchester United to play their next few matches.
It was Manchester United who ended Arsenal’s 49-match unbeaten streak by defeating the Invincibles by two goals to nil at Old Trafford. Arsene Wenger admitted that it was one of the most difficult times for his team and they really struggled to bounce back.
Manchester United will play their next match against their city rivals, third-placed Manchester City, which is being considered as the title-deciding match.
Moreover, the Gunners manager seconds Sir Alex Ferguson claims about Manchester derby playing a crucial role in the Barclays Premier League title race.
Wenger said, “I will look at it and see how they respond. Usually, they respond well. It's very difficult psychologically to start again. For us it was 49 games, we lost the 50th game under special circumstances. It was even more difficult to swallow, the
sense of injustice.”
Arsenal will play their next match against Wolverhampton Wanderers at Emirates on Saturday. If Manchester City manage to get all three points at Old Trafford and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Arsenal-c38429 also win, the Gunners would be within touching distance of leaders Manchester United.
For the first time in six years, the Gunners have emerged as one of the strongest title contenders and Arsene Wenger has emphasised on the importance of winning their first title since 2004.
Furthermore, the French manager of Arsenal has also claimed that their Saturday’s fixture against Wolverhampton Wanderers is more important than their midweek’s UEFA Champions League clash against Spanish Champions Barcelona.
He said, “This game is as important, if not more important, than http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Barcelona-c38604. We started in August to fight for every single ball to be in a position to fight for the Premier League and now is the time of truth. We are in a strong position. It would be absolutely
stupid now not to prioritise the Premier League.”
