Arsene Wenger says cursing is a part of football
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger believes that vulgarities are a part of football, and players who verbally abuse match officials should not be penalised. Wenger’s comments come after Cesc Fabregas was accused of mouthing off to referee Lee Mason during Arsenal’s
match against Everton earlier in the week.
The Gunners captain was incensed when Louis Saha’s goal was allowed to stand, despite the striker clearly being in an offside position. Everton manager David Moyes had accused Fabregas of verbally abusing referee http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Lee-c21860 Mason as the teams walked off during
the half-time interval, something that Moyes believes deserved a straight red card.
The Spaniard escaped prosecution by the Football Association (FA) for his actions, as Mason did not mention any wrongdoing on Fabregas’ part in his match report. However, the controversy surrounding the incident continues to rage on.
Arsene Wenger has come to the defence of his captain, claiming that Fabregas has done nothing wrong. The Gunners boss says that even if the Spaniard did mouth off to referee Lee Mason, he does not deserve to be penalised for it. Wenger believes that it is
normal for players to get caught up in the heat of the moment and take out their frustrations at match officials.
The Arsenal manager said, “Take the 20 captains of the Premier League and then try to convince me that not one of them says something to a referee for the whole team. You have people who say '**** off' to the referee in front of the camera and it doesn't
shock anybody. It doesn't shock you.”
Wenger gave the example of the recently retired http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Gary-Neville-c14447. The Manchester United defender was famous for venting his angers at officials, and Wenger asked why the media never made a fuss about his comments to referees.
The 61-year-old believes that Fabregas has the mental toughness to make it through the “media witch hunt” he is being subjected to. Wenger added, “"Cesc is 24 this year, he has played 250 games in the Premier League - at that age, it is absolutely remarkable.
He has gone through a lot, difficult moments, but has always come out stronger - this guy is fantastic.”
