The Arsenal manager has revealed that with just a year left on Robin Van Persie’s contract at the Emirates stadium, gaining access to UEFAC champions League football next season will be the key to convicting the Dutchman to
stay with the Gunners...
Arsene Wenger has confirmed that Arsenal need to gain a place in the next season’s UEFA Champions League to convince http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Arsenal-c38429’s league campaign
this season which has been inconsistent at times as Wenger built up a new squad over the summer.
In the previous summer transfer window, Arsenal parted ways with two of their most influential players http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Samir-Nasri-c32360 and Cesc Fabregas. Van Persie opted to stay and as a result he has taken up a central role at the club scoring most
of their goals this season. With Van Persie gone in the future, Arsenal would definitely struggle therefore the emphasis now is on gaining a place in the UEFA Champions League for next season by winning against West Bromwich Albion on the weekend.
Wenger said, "On my side I am inclined to think 'yes', but you should ask him. I don't know whether it will have an influence on him. Anyway, we don't focus on just that. Robin is not at the end of his contract. People speak like
our position is not important. Our position is very important. Our position with Cesc was to let him go because he wanted to go."
He added, "Another way to strengthen for us is to get Wilshere and [Abou] Diaby, who didn't play at all the whole season. You look at the number of players - we have 34 players when they all come back. That means you have to pay
nine not to play. Both teams have not been capable to do it. We have been in position as well where we were not capable to do it. It can happen. The championship is difficult”.
