Arsene Wenger has revealed that his team must now prepare to take on Chelsea after their disastrous defeat to Wigan Athletic in their latest Premier League match. Arsenal went into the encounter as favourites but soon that tag
was stripped away by Wigan who gained a 2-1 win at the Emirates stadium. Wigan’s second in two weeks was surprising for many but what was more surprising was the way Arsenal were ineffective in the second half of their match against the Latics.
Arsene Wenger had expected his side to work their magic in the second half and turn the 2-1 score line around but that did not happen and now Arsenal must gain a positive result against Chelsea to retain their third place position
in the Premier League standings. With Tottenham on their back already, Arsenal could do with all three points against Chelsea but it still remains to be seen what the result of their all London clash will be.
Wenger said, "After that we had a mountain to climb. I felt in the first half we had enough chances to come back to 2-2, but the second half we dropped our level, we lost our team play, our cohesion and tried too much individually.
There was not enough petrol left in the tank anymore. We didn't see anyone who could make a difference."
He added, "Chelsea is a massive and vital game for us. We need to recover from the massive disappointment of this result first, then prepare mentally for the next one. It is disrespectful to people who pay big money to watch the
game. We are sorry we did not play well, but that the referees do not act on that is not right. I can understand they do it, but it is down to the referee not to allow them to do it."
