Arsene Wenger states next fourteen days crucial for Thomas Vermaelen
It has been reported that the next fortnight will be very crucial for the immediate future of Thomas Vermaelen. The Belgian international is reportedly nearing a return to train with the Arsenal team. The player had been out of
action for nearly six months after picking up an Achilles injury. Arsene Wenger has tried to remain optimistic about the player, but has also gone on to state that the next few weeks will be very crucial for the future of the 24-year-old at the club.
Vermaelen has been out of action for the team since August and is expected to be back in action by the end of the month. However, if Wenger declares him unfit to play any time soon, then Wenger might just have to go shopping in
the transfer window, before it closes.
Arsene Wenger is reported to have said,  “Thomas is just on the fringe of getting back on the pitch again”
“The next ten days to two weeks will be an important test for him and hopefully he can get through well. We will see.
“At the moment everyone at the Club looks positive but I will have to make a decision before the end of January."
As of now, Gary Cahill has been linked with Arsenal. The player has been a long-term target for the team, mainly due to his tackling and tough as nails attitude. The player has gone on to develop a name for himself since moving
to Bolton from Aston Villa. In fact, he has managed to grow so much over the course of the last season that he even earned his first international cap during this period.
However, Arsene Wenger, when asked about Cahill and his possible move to the Emirates responded by saying, “I wouldn't like to give you a name”
“But if Thomas doesn't improve we will have to look at [the whole situation].”
It is still somewhat unclear as to which defender, if any, is going to be moving to the Emirates. However, what can be said for a fact is that some positive reinforcements at the back will not do any harm to the team. Arsenal have
one of the best attacking line-ups in Europe at the moment and if the team can manage to do the same with their defence, then they might just go on to lift a number of trophies by the end of the season.
