Arsene Wenger wants top keeper Mark Schwarzer to join Arsenal

The most important part of football defense is the man in goal. When all else fails, goalkeeper uses his feet, body and hands to make sure the ball stays out of the nets. Arsenal has goal issues which is why Arsene Wenger wants the 37 year old Australian keeper Mark Schwarzer to replace Manuel Almunia.

When you play well although you do it for yourself the world pays attention; Schwarzer has done very well for Fulham during the Europa League final against Atletico Madrid.

This will be dream move for Mark Schwarzer and Hodgson doesn’t want to stand in the way. The move is bound to happened which is why Fulham are already actively looking for a potential replacement for Schwarzer.

Schwarzer has been consistent for a very long time and it’s the consistency since 1966 that is taking him to bigger and better things. His move to Bradford from Kaiserslautern fourteen years ago made him the most consistent player in Premier.

Many in football circle considered him one of the best keepers in the English football and he has lived up to expectations for a long long time.

Mark Schwarzer deal between Fulham and Arsenal is going to be worth £3m but Wenger is happy to fork out the cash to strengthen the team for the upcoming year. If the deal does not pan out, Wenger still has Vito Mannone and Lukas Fabianski.

This year Schwarzer played 37 games and saved 130 saves; his 6.5” stands in between the opposition strikers and the net. After spending over ten years with Middlesbrough, Schwarzer signed for Fulham in 2008 and immediately made noticeable contributions by taking the Premier League side to a Europa League berth. One of his finest stops where when he denied a penalty shot from Manchester City's Robbie Fowler.

"His credentials in both the domestic and international arenas are impeccable, which is reinforced by the calibre of clubs that wanted to sign him." Fulham manager Roy Hodgson, May 2008.
