Arsene Wenger will not be buying in January
Arsenal manager, Arsene Wenger has shown satisfaction on his squad’s depth and has said that he will not be spending during the January transfer window.
Arsenal were rumoured to land some players to strengthen the team, especially in the goalkeeping department. Fulham FC’s Mark Schwarzer and Manchester City’s reserve keeper Shay Given were linked with the north London club; however,
Arsene denied all such speculations regarding the transfers.
Meanwhile, Dutch international Robin van Persie is expected to start against Wigan Athletic in the Gunner’s Carling Cup match on Wednesday.
Van Persie did not feature in Arsenal’s 4-2 victory over Aston Villa in the Premier League last weekend. This could be a chance for the Dutchman to gain match fitness, ahead of Arsenal’s upcoming fixtures in the Premier League.
Persie’s season has been injury ridden and the striker has not managed a single start in the Premier League, while making a mere 5 appearances for the club.
Talking about his possible starting 11 for Wednesday night’s cup tie, the French manager said, “The team will be a mixture of experience and youth. For me, in my squad, the 25 players are the same level or all nearly on the same
level," said Wenger.”
Wenger seemed contented with his side’s progress in the domestic league. Gunners are currently 3rd in the table and are behind 2nd placed Chelsea, due to an inferior goal difference.
He added, “We are two points from the top in the Premier League, we are in the quarter-final of the Carling Cup, with still a good chance to qualify in the Champions League. Our target is to get to Christmas in a strong position
in all the competitions."
The French manager is also hoping to get his influential captain, Cesc Fabregas back from injury before Arsenal’s crunch ties in the Premier League. Wenger’s boys will travel to Old Trafford on 13th December, and after
two weeks will host champions Chelsea at the Emirates.
Fabregas is an inspirational figure in the Arsenal line-up and the manager would not want to miss him when he engages in key battles with the big clubs.
The Spanish international is expected to be out of action for the game against Fulham FC at the weekend, but can make a recovery in time to face United in mid-December.
