  1. I was told that a good non-poisonous way to get rid of rodents is to put out some chocolate Ex-Lax.  It doesn't kill them but it gives them such an unforgettable experience they'll go away and stay away.  I know this sounds like a joke, but I'm serious.  Someone recommended this to me when I had gophers in my front yard.

  2. Apple seeds contain arsenic.   Have you tried a cat?   Antifreeze tastes sweet to some animals, but they die a horrible death after drinking it.

  3. Unfortunately arsenic is not sold over the counter in most western nations any longer.  It is considered too toxic to the environment and a public health risk to be used by home owners.

Getting rid of rodents is not easy.  The current state of the art methods are called Integrated Pest Management (IPM).  Applying IPM means first reducing the habitat.  Where in your home are you seeing them, where are they breeding and where are they comming from.  Every place in your home and yard needs to be examined, and corrected.  Fruit trees provide food, bushes that cover/reach the ground provide habitat, openings that allow them to enter your home is access.  If you have any of the settings they need to be mitigated as part of IPM.

The next step is traps.  Whether you choose mechanical traps or my favorite, the Rat Zapper, these need to be set and checked daily.  There is also a strategy for using traps.  Do some IPM searches to find this.

The last step is poisens which you've already tried.  Some poisens are too strong.  The mice come into contact with the poisen and they die quickly.  The other mice see this and don't touch the poisen after the other mice die.  Here again a strategy needs to be employed, check IPM sites for more info.
