The former Indian Test cricketer, Arshad Ayub, has backed the out of form Indian batsman, VVS Laxman, to regain form sooner rather than later and feels that the veteran batsman still has a lot to offer to Indian cricket in the longer version of the sport.
India is currently touring Australia, having already lost the Test series with one match to go. The Men in Blue, who were the number one ranked Test team of the world till last summer, are close to yet another whitewash after they endured a similar fate
against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013 last year.
Historically, Laxman has been the best batsman for India in foreign conditions and his record on the bouncy pitches of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 is impeccable. However, in this particular series Laxman has failed to reach the heights of previous tours, as he is yet to make
a significant contribution with the bat.
Senior Indian batsmen have come under immense media scrutiny, with calls by former cricketers that it is time for http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 to start grooming younger batsmen.
In spite of the criticism levelled at Laxman, the former off-spinner, Ayub, has backed Laxman to deliver the goods once again for India and insisted that the selectors must persist with him because form is temporary, but class is permanent.
Ayub thinks that Laxman has taken a lot of pressure upon himself to score runs in the series and this has led to his downfall.
Ayub said, “His problem is just loss of form, which can and does happen to anyone. The fact that Laxman has been very successful in Australia previously is perhaps the reason why he looks so vulnerable right now, and it seems he is putting a lot of pressure
on himself to perform, making it difficult for him to make adjustments.”
The former off-spinner believes that Laxman needs to work on his technique and everything will be fine after that.
“I won’t say he is finished. He needs to look at the tapes of his recent best innings, and analyse what worked for him there and what isn’t working right now,” former cricketer added.
India will be looking to avoid a whitewash against Australia by winning or drawing the fourth and final Test match at Adelaide.
