Arshavin tips Denisov to return to Zenit St. Petersburg one day just like him – Football news
Andrei Arshavin, who made a sensational return to Zenit St. Petersburg a day before yesterday after signing a two-year contract with the Russian Premier League, has tipped Igor Denisov to make a return to Petrovsky stadium one day.
“I am really happy to return to Zenit. I had several options. I had offers from different American and Asian clubs and some of them were offering me lucrative offers along with the contract. But I did not look at the financial aspect. I think I can get a chance to return to the national team should I play on regular basis in the league which is on the rise. I have learned different lessons from life and now I feel good to be back here. I hope that someday Denisov will come back to Zenit like me,” the UEFA Cup winner was quoted as saying.
Denisov joined Anzhi Makhachkala earlier this week after weeks of speculations regarding a possible move to the Dagestani club. The 29-year-old Russian International midfielder forced his move through following a dispute with coach Luciano Spalletti.
The Italian tactician forced Denisov to train with the reserve team for more than a month after the player questioned the club’s management wage system following the arrival of Hulk and Axel Witsel from FC Porto and SL Benfica.
The Russian outfit reportedly splashed out 100 million Euros to capture the two players and made them one of the highest earning starts at the club instantly which provoked Denisov along with other local lads in the squad.
However, the issue was resolved after Denisov apologised to the head coach and the club’s management for his utterly rude composure and misbehaviour.
The St. Petersburg club managed to sign Arshavin and Anatoliy Tymoshchuk from Bayern Munich and Arsenal FC respectively. Both the attackers returned to Zenit as free agents on a free transfer.
Arshavin could not hide his emotions after returning to the St. Petersburg club where he started his professional playing career. The 32-year-old winger-c*m-striker moved to the London-based club for reportedly 20 million Euro transfer fees from Zenit back in 2009.
