Hi, I have an Art exam coming up and the question I am doing requires me to design my own CD cover, however i have decided to make a Jakebox instead to get some extra marks.

Luckily the Jakebox site gives you a template but no instructions!! How can i make a Jakebox?!

Template:

http://www.jakebox.com/pdf/jakebox_cd_standard.pdf

Finished Product:

Any help would be appreciated! And I'm not cheating in the exam i just have no idea how this is done!

Thanks in advanced

  1. Since you have the template (which does sort of have instructions, it tells you what everything is), and you know what the final product looks like, you should be able to work it out. Just print the template on some cheap paper and play around with dummying it up. You'll figure it out and then you'll be ready to do it for real. It's a pretty cool design, I like it.

  2. My strong advice would be to design your own CD cover thereby answering the question you have been asked to do. I cant see that this would earn you any extra points, sorry. If you are interested in the jakebox then keep that as a separate project by all means but utilise your skills for now towards the design cover and let rip on your creativity and originality for that is what will get you the extra marks you desire.

  3. If you want to be a pro-artist you have to learn to balance (1)what you really want to do, with (2) what your Customer wants/is paying for, but WITHOUT stifling your creative juices.

I suggest you answer the question first (ie 2, your Customer "wants"), then do your design straight form the heart!

If you really want to go with your freedom, do it on your own time, and find an gallery to exhibit your material. but do it quick while there is food in the cupboard, coz it might be a long time before you have any money
