Art Projects?

I am an infant room teacher at a day care and I am trying to figure out some winter based art projects I can do with the infants. They range from 4 months to 13 months. Any help would be appreciated. I am also trying to figure out a small art project Christmas present for the parents!

  1. Hand prints, foot prints.  Take a picture of them and glue it on a sheet of paper that saids Merry Christmas

  2. Children in that age range are not sufficiently intellectually developed to create art.  I do have a suggestion that would allow you to do the creating with their cooperation.  Make greeting cards, using their handprints.  A little finger paint and some construction paper are all that is needed.  You make the prints by pressing the little hands onto the paper, then you add a greeting and name and fold the cards.  The parents and grandparents who receive them will appreciate the greeting and treasure the little handprints.

  3. With children that small, you could try these......

Painted Hand/Foot Angel:  a piece of construction paper, paint and paintbrush, paperplate and wipes (for easy clean up)...... pour some paint on the plate and with the paintbrush, 'paint' the child's foot and then press the foot gently onto the construction paper (WARNING: excessive wiggleing may occur)....clean the foot and then 'paint' the hands (one at a time) and place it to the side of the foot so that it looks like wings.

When dry you can add two little eyes...with a thin circle of glue and some glitter you can create the halo.

    Label it ' To___________'

    'From: Your Christmas Angel'

You could try Cheerio ornaments with the ones who are starting to pick things up (smear the glue with a paintbrush so that there are no 'globs' to intrigue the kids with), use heavy paper (wreaths or ornaments), use yarn for the hanger and spray with hairspray when dry ( it keeps the bugs off)...make sure there is EXTRA of whatever food item you use since everything goes in the mouth.

FYI: you can also make Hand/Foot Reindeer, just use dark paint (or paper if you want to cut them out) and put the hands where the antlers would be, a pompom makes the nose.

  4. One year I got a pillow case with my little ones hand prints on it and the teacher wrote a poem and had it transferred to the pillow case.

    It said something like;

If I could hold you with my tiny hands

    all night long

I would read to you and sing to you

    the most beautiful song

About how much I love you

and how you care for me.......

I really cant remember because I have it safely put away.

You could also do calendars with their pic and handprints and laminate them.

  5. let them play with sensorial paint (paint with textured materials. to create this just add stuff to paint) as the children handle the paint with their hand, they will feel the textured materials in it. i used sand with my 2 year olds. but for safety sake you may want to use edible stuff such as whip cream with rice flakes or cereal flakes. another thing you can do is make edible treats with them (invite parents in to work with their child). have fun!

  6. art "projects" are not age appropriate for any age espically infants. what you need to be focusing on with this age is the "processes" you use in art. Give them things to do in their high chairs, like fat crayons, like paint with pudding, give them a piece of homemade edible playdough that you help them mash up, give them maybe a paint brush and a tab of water as they will play in it, but are learning as they play, as you know everything will go in mouths anyways..parents love anything that have hand or foot prints or both...they keep these forever and watch the childs hands/feet grow. just remember to not use anything toxic like markers, or glitter etc...you also could make a nice paper ornament for the tree with the childs picture and the date...good luck, enjoy the holiday with these precious ones and merry christmas from kansas

  7. A frame for a photo you take of them. They can paint or decorate it with help. Use cardboard or popsicle sticks.

    Makes a nice tree ornament.

  8. For a x-mas present for parents you can use plaster of paris, poured into plates and make handprints of the kids, then paint gold. As far as arts profects with that age group goes, they dont care about arts and crafts.
