Question:

Art Therapy Lesson Ideas?

Hi, I conduct art therapy lessons for preschool children in special ed. I'm constantly looking for new therapy ideas and lessons and was hoping you have some fresh and new ideas. Basically I'm interested in any thing that emphasizes the process of art rather than the final outcome, that is fun for children ages 3 to 6 and that will stimulate them and get them working with their hands. (anything involving painting or gluing will work...). Also, if you know of any links for art therapy that might help....I'm a little new at this and would appreciate any help & especially feedback from a practicing art therapist!

Thank you!!!

  1. Here are a few sources for you to check out for art therapy lessons.

My students like things like clay, sand paper, macaroni, sand, pudding, rice, shaving cream, and whipped cream from a can.  Hope that helps.

  2. How about a big tree of life where you provide the outline and the kids can glue in the foliage with yarn or beans, etc. Stimulates the tactile senses as well as being visual, and furthers socialization if you make it a group project.
