I have a degree in Fine art and am interested in becoming an art lecturer - looking to teach at college level (16 ). Im roughly aware of the route for secondary school teaching though if anyone could advise on how the training system at college level works, that would be much appreciated.

Thankyou!

  1. Most universities and colleges require an MFA or Doctorate to teach at them. You might be able to find work at a community college or 2 year college. If you are interested in teaching at the high school level, you could do it now as a sub & find out if you are really cut out for it. To get a full time teaching license, you would need another year of college, taking education & art education courses.

  2. I am completing a part time Diploma in Teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector, which will lead to Qualified Teacher Learning and Skills (QTLS). I already teach adults in adult education, and will be qualified to teach 14-19 year olds too. The course is 2 years, and you have to achieve QTLS in 5 years. You need to be able to submit 75 hours of evaluated lesson plans each year, so you need to be teaching to begin the course. I have really enjoyed the first year, and about to begin the second.

    Good luck
