Artem Sitak destroys Andrew Adams in qualies – Legg Mason Tennis Classic 2011
Artem Sitak, New Zealander, won his first round qualifier of the Legg Mason Tennis Classic 2011 against the new local seed Andrew Adams in straight sets. The ATP World Tour 500 Tournament qualifier was played at the William H.G.
Fitzgerald Tennis Centre as the New Zealand World No.389 carved his easy 6-4, 6-4 win to the 2nd round qualifier.
Sitak, 25-year-old, took one hour and 35 minutes to pin down the 18-year-old up comer. The Hard court proved to be a strong hold for the world No.389 as he had played last 10 matches on hard circuit.
The former world No.288, Sitak, gunned down the young American straight sets giving no room to the American to break at any point. The strong defence was proving for the New Zealander as he broke Adams twice in the match.
The first breakpoint for Sitak came in the first game as Adams miscalculated his competitor. The 25-year-old right hander increased his lead to 2-0 in game 2. Further on, the two contenders won back-to-back games on their respective
serves. The two-game lead was fruitful for the former world No.288 as he took the first set 6-4 and led the game 1-0.
Sitak aced three times in the first set and availed the only breakpoint of the set. Totalling 39 points, the world No.389 held the lead with 24 service points and 15 returners.
Adams got another chance as he served, once again, to open the set. The 18-year-old put up a tough fight as he rushed through the games he served. With 2nd set game scores level at 3-3, the American served for the next
game.
Turning the table of the match, Sitak broke the American once again and took control. Winning the next game, the New Zealander took charge with a two games lead and eventually disqualified the American from the Legg Mason Tennis
Classic 2011.
Sitak played a steady match. Acing three times in the first and three times in the 2nd set, he saved all the breakpoint chances as well. Adams had no 1stserve return points in the second set. On the contrary
Sitak won 100 percent of his 1st serve points in the second set.
In addition to the 39 points in set 1, the 25-year-old added another 37 totalling 76 points to win the match 6-4, 6-4 and qualified for the 2nd round.
The world No.389, Artem Sitak will now play the winner of the match between Nicolas Massu and Victor Estrella for a spot in the main draw.
