Artemis Racing finishes second on Day 1 of America’s Cup World Series at Plymouth
Thousands of spectators gathered at Plymouth waters to see the thrilling Day 1 races of America’s Cup World Series (ACWS). The weather conditions were ideal for a smooth sail and the nine-boat
AC45 fleet didn't disappoint the massive crowd gathered to see the sailors in action. Emirates Team New Zealand finished first with 28 points while Artemis Racing was convincing with 26 points and settled for second position.
The weather forecast did give a slight scare to the sailors earlier in the day but as the day progressed, the winds became ideal for a superb sail. Earlier in the day, a south westerly
breeze was gusting from around 15 to 20 knots which made the races more thrilling.
At the end of Day 1, Emirates Team New Zealand finished on top of the standings of AC45 fleet while Artemis Racing had a second place finish after three races of the day. Artemis racing
couldn’t win any race but they grabbed two second positions and a third to book second spot with 26 points.
While speaking to the local media after the race, Artemis Racing skipper Terry Hutchinson said, “There was one point when I was worried were going over, but we managed to sit the boat
down however, we were only 100mm from the mark!”
He further added, “We’re happy with our results today and our boat handling. The guys did a great job of battling out there. They are working really hard. It was also awesome to see all
the spectators on the Plymouth Hoe.”
