Artest trade??! huh??

Ok, did ANYONE expect Houston to be the ones first in the line of teams to get him? This changes A LOT in the Western Conference adding a great player who plays both ends of the court to an already talented team. If Houston stays healthy, they could be title contenders... Which isn't very likely but if they have ONE good season together it could be their year.

I know it hasn't been done yet due to Donte Greenes 1 month after signing trade rule but I really do hope the Kings can get a better offer in a month because what we get is Bobby Jackson, a late first round pick, and a rookie. And this is for our best defensive player!

What do you think about this potential trade?

  1. Ive been saying they should do this for months and when i heard about it yesterday i was so happy.  This obviously makes them one of the best now.  This makes their defense and offense soooo much better.  I thiink the only team that can stop them may be the Lakers.  Most teams like the Spurs, Suns, Mavs etc are getting worse.  Lets just hope they stay healthy

  2. the kings made this trade for one simple reason - salary cap

even with ron artest they were not in a position to become title contenders and w/o him, they definitely arent but they are building up to that. houston wasnt going to trade mcgrady or yao  so it was no use asking for either of them .

with bobby jacksons contract coming off in a year and the extra money that they recieved from houston, they should have enough money to sign a big free agent next summer.

The kings know that they are no where near championship level with the already loaded western conference so they are building up to that and they felt that this trade would help them.

Houston obviously got a good deal. T-mac must be happy.

  3. At first, I hated this trade. It brings us from a potential eighth seed to a cellar dweller. But the goal shouldnt be to make the playoffs, it should be to win it all. And with Martin, Beno, Cisco, Salmons, Thompson, Hawes, Green, tons of cap space for '09 and '10, and two first round picks next year, I think we are at least headed in the right direction. Let the rebuilding begin.

  4. It's good for houston.  It gives them more size which is what they were lacking and got exposed to when Yao went out, but there gona need T-mac i have a back spasm every 2 days mcgrady and yao all kinds of foot problems ming to stay health

  5. I didn't expect it, but i like it.

  6. I think it's great for both sides. The Rockets get another premier defender and a 3rd person who can make his own shot. He's not too great as a person, but this is a low-risk, high-reward situation.

For the Kings, I don't see you guys getting a better deal. The Kings are oriented towards the future which is why they wanted Donte Greene, who impressed them by dropping 40 points in his summer league debut. Bobby Jackson is an expiring contract so if he is not traded, he will give the Kings some money to work with next season to get a few free agents.

The late first round pick also helps them get another future star. This upcoming season may not be good for the Kings, but in a few seasons when they have developed some of their rookies and picked up some new free agents, they can definitely be contenders.
